IAGH Condemns ISIS

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford (IAGH), one of the largest Islamic centers in Connecticut, today condemned the violence and hostilities perpetrated by self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Connecticut Muslims view the actions of ISIS as un-Islamic and morally repugnant.  No religion condones the murder of civilians, the beheading of religious scholars or the desecration of houses of worship.  Their actions against religious minorities in Iraq violate the Quranic teaching, ‘Let there be no compulsion in religion’ (Surat al-Baqara 2:256)

We denounce and condemn the actions of ISIS, which are in no way representative of what Islam actually teaches.  IAGH strongly urges Connecticut imams and community leaders to continue to speak out against all forms of religious extremism and to preach for increased tolerance and human rights within the mainstream teachings of Islam.
