Planning a Visit

The Berlin Mosque at the Islamic Association of Greater Hartford is open to visitors year-round.  You do not need to be Muslim in order to visit a Mosque!  Our goal is to make your visit an informative and enjoyable one.

We ask that anyone interested in making a visit, please contact us so we can make arrangements for a time when events are taking place.

What to Expect:

Prayer services are typically conducted on a clean carpeted area so visitors are asked to remove their shoes at the entrance areas and place their shoes in a cubby.  Visitors are encouraged to observe prayers taking place, while respecting the traditional quiet during the prayer.  Our Mosque is handicapped accessible so a wheelchair ramp and elevator are available on request, as well as chairs.

Modesty is an important tradition for Muslims, although standards and expectations do vary.  Men and women pray is separate prayer areas in adhere to those principals.  However, the IAGH also aims to make the Mosque an open environment for the exchange of ideas and programs so social and educational gatherings take place in the downstairs event hall for both men and women.

We ask that both male and female visitors observe modest dress – typically a blouse and pants or a skirts which covers the arms and legs for women and full-length pants for men.  While female visitors may choose to opt for a headscarf, it is not required for visitors.

Our aim is to foster a comfortable environment for a visit.  No one will ask you during your visit to participate on the services or make any gestures of respect.  Should you wish to participate, you are welcome to do so.  If you have questions during your visit, please do not hesitate to contact the Imam or your visit guide.
