IAOGH Weekend Islamic School aims to present Islamic concepts in the light of the Quran and Sunnah.

 Mission Statement:

 The mission of IAOGH School is to instill Islamic behavior and manners in our youth while teaching them the basics of Islam. The school strives to achieve this goal by providing:

  1. Classes in Islamic Studies, Quran memorization & understanding, and recitation of the Quran. 
  2. An Islamic environment for socialization.
  3. An opportunity to offer Salat (prayer) in jamaat (congregation).

 Through such a program, IAOGH School aims to help children become proud, practicing Muslims, insha'Allah.

 Classes on Sundays start at 10:30am. Students must attend all of the following:

1.    Two periods for each level; one period is for Islamic studies and the other is for Quran and Arabic.

2.    Prayer at 1:15pm. We encourage parents to pray with their children.

 Please make sure to arrive on time and pick up your children on time. Please don’t pick up your children early unless you have an emergency.

Children are not to be left unattended in the parking lot. Parents must accompany the children to their classes and pick them up from the school building at the end of the day.

Schedule for 2011/2012 academic year:

Classes on Sundays start at 10:30am. Students must attend all of the following:

1.    Two periods for each level; one period is for Islamic studies and the other is for Quran and Arabic.

2.    Prayer at 1:15pm. We encourage parents to pray with their children.

Class Schedule:

Parents are expected to ensure that children arrive at school on time and be picked up on time. Students who are more than 10 minutes late for class will be considered tardy. Students who are tardy, have to report to the office before being admitted to class.  Tardiness may affect their mid-term and final grades.

School Hours:

School hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Sunday. Children are expected to attend the Zuhr prayers as a part of the school activity.

Students may be placed in the grade level corresponding to their age or in certain instances, according to their subject knowledge.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ø  To have good attendance: Students should be at the Mosque by 10:30am.

Ø  To dress appropriately: Students are required to dress modestly   according to the principals of Islam. 

Ø  To display respect for others: Keep your hands and feet to one’s self. Use appropriate language and expressions.

Ø  To care for school property: Damage to books or other school equipment will be the responsibility of the student.

Ø  To display respect for your teachers.

Ø  To cooperate with substitute teachers: From time to time your regular teacher may be absent. You will be held responsible for all work covered by a substitute teacher.

Ø  Proper school behavior is expected at all times.

Ø  Each student is responsible for disposing of food wrappers, paper plates and cups, and the like in the wastebaskets available all around the school and the Mosque.

Ø  Students are not allowed to run inside the Mosque. The Mosque is a place of prayer and learning and not a playground.

Ø  Let us be helpful, polite, and considerate at all times. Your cooperation will go a long way into making the day a positive one for you as well as others.

Study Skills:

Ø  KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU.

Ø  HAVE THE NECESSARY MATERIALS:

        Be prepared with textbooks, notes, paper, pencils, etc.

Ø  DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON TIME: Make sure to bring it with you and hand it to the teacher on time.

Ø  PLAN YOUR STUDY TIME: Don’t wait until the last minute to finish your homework.

Ø  WRITE NEATLY

Ø  SHARE YOUR SCHOOL WORK WITH YOUR PARENTS.

Student Conduct:

Students are expected to maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and Islamic behavior. Parents are urged to emphasize the importance of education, respect for teachers, and the need for spiritual and physical cleanliness, decency in dress, and Islamic behavior. 

bulletClassroom behavior:

Disruptive or distracting behavior is not tolerated in the classroom. Only school related books and materials are allowed in the classroom. Food items, toys, radios, etc. are not permitted in the classrooms.
Communication devices such as cell phones, pagers, etc. must be turned off while attending classes.

bulletWarnings:

Any act of misconduct or disrespect by a student may be a cause for a warning or suspension from school. Three warnings can result in the suspension of the student for the rest of the year.

·    Grievance Procedure:

A parent desirous of seeking clarification for a particular disciplinary action may do so by filing such a request in writing within seven days of the action taken.  This request will be addressed and submitted to the Director of the IAOGH School.  In case the matter remains unresolved upon review by the Director, the request can be forwarded to the Chairperson of the School Committee for a final disposition.

Dress Code:

 Students are reminded that Allah (SWT) requires that we dress modestly.  We encourage students to respect themselves and adhere to Islamic rules for dress.  Please note of the following:

bulletShorts  are not allowed. 
bulletAll girls are required to wear a head cover, long loose-fitting clothes and long sleeves
bulletCaps (sport) are not allowed in the classrooms for boys. 
bulletAny clothing material displaying inappropriate images is not allowed. 

Note: The School Director  or a class teacher has the authority to decide whether clothing is appropriate.

 Books and Supplies:

Books are supplied by the school.  If a student loses a book, a replacement can be purchased from the school. Students are required to bring with them paper, pencil, textbooks, and other school supplies every week. Book bags are recommended. Students are responsible for their own belongings.

 Tuition:

Tuition is charged to meet expenses incurred throughout the school year.  Tuition must be paid at the beginning of the school . In cases of economic hardship, fees may be reduced or waived.

The following tuition was recommended by the education committee and approved by the board of trustees for 09/10 academic year. The tuition plan is BASED ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS per family (HOUSEHOLD):

$225 for ONE student (that is less than last year)

$300 for TWO students

$350 for THREE students

An ADDITIONAL $50 for each additional student

THE FEES ARE TO BE PAID AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION, either IN FULL at the TIME OF REGISTRATION (HIGHLY ENCOURAGED) or in TWO PAYMENTS, ONE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION AND THE OTHER IN JANUARY.
