IAGH Condemns ISIS

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford (IAGH), one of the largest Islamic centers in Connecticut, today condemned the violence and hostilities perpetrated by self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Connecticut Muslims view the actions of ISIS as un-Islamic and morally repugnant.  No religion condones the murder of civilians, the beheading of religious scholars or the desecration of houses of worship.  Their actions against religious minorities in Iraq violate the Quranic teaching, ‘Let there be no compulsion in religion’ (Surat al-Baqara 2:256)

We denounce and condemn the actions of ISIS, which are in no way representative of what Islam actually teaches.  IAGH strongly urges Connecticut imams and community leaders to continue to speak out against all forms of religious extremism and to preach for increased tolerance and human rights within the mainstream teachings of Islam.

Political activism and your civic responsibility – meeting at 5:30pm today Saturday 8/30/14

Assalaamu-alaikum,

We are trying to organize a political activism planning meeting to address our relationship with elected officials and how we get from here to the elections in November and in the years to come. How do we build a healthy working relationship with our elected officials so that when we are attacked unfairly in the media or otherwise we are able to call on our elected officials. This also applies to international issues and if you are not heard you do not exist. Let’s get off the complaining, reactionary mode and proactively build this committee.

Venue – IAGH conference hall – 1781 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin, CT.

Time 5:30pm after Asr Salat.

Date – Today – Saturday 8/30/14
