Daily Prayers (Salat) Suspended at Berlin Masjid until further notice

Assalaamu-alaikum dear brothers and sisters,
Here is Imam Refai’s lecture from Sunday 3/15/20:
Here is Dr. Reza Mansoor’s Facebook live Coronavirus update from Sunday 3/15/20:
As the number of cases of COVID-19 increase and will likely go up further, the board of Berlin masjid have decided to close the masjid for daily prayers as well. We take our responsibility as board members very seriously and this is not a decision we take lightly.
We strongly urge you to stay at home and pray your prayers with your family and not seek places where you may infect yourself and the rest of the community around you! PLEASE take this advice as seriously as you can. In Islam we always assess the benefit versus the risk and having the responsibility of even one death of a member of our community is the priority we are considering at the highest level.
We are working to get Sunday School classes, Arabic and Quran classes continue via other avenues on zoom and other modalities. Some of the teachers have reached out to you so directly and this will continue to happen. I will try to keep you abreast of everything that happens on a regular basis – Insha Allah.
Please use this opportunity to make dua for our community and the ummah from not only this severe disease COVID-19 but also remember those refugees and all those suffering only because they are Muslim – all over the world. This is the time, when we have a calamity that we accept Allah’s will and trust in Him. Indeed to Allah we belong and to Him is our return.
Please remember you should:
  1. Wash your hands frequently.
  2. Spend at least 20 seconds washing the front and back of your hands and in-between your fingers frequently.
  3. Avoid touching your face as much as you can.
  4. Try to boost your immune system with regular exercise and vitamin C containing foods – especially citrus fruits.
  5. Stay 6 feet away from each other as the virus depends on person to person transmission. Avoid people who are coughing or sneezing
  6. If you are not well – get rest – at least 8 hours of sleep and stay well hydrated. Take Tylenol for fever but if it persists call your doctor. If you get short of breath call your doctor.
  7. Avoid Ibuprofen, Motrin and Advil class of medications as it may worsen the Coronavirus effects.
  8. If you are sick wear a facemask.
The masjid will now be closed even for daily prayers in order to prevent people being exposed to unnecessary risk. Please do not shake hands or other bodily contact and bring your own prayer rug for your own safety and that of the community.
May Allah protect us all! Please make lots of dua and give in charity as a protection for your selves and your family and the community at large. Remember that once we take adequate precautions we trust in Allah (SWT) to protect us and He is the best to protect.
May Allah reward you all!
The IAGH board will meet on a regular basis to consider the risk to the community in making our decisions. We want you to be safe and aware of the difficult decisions ahead and understand that we are doing everything for the benefit of the community and in keeping with the Quranic and prophetic guidelines.

IAGH Statement on the attacks on Jews during Hanukah Celebration and on Christians in Texas

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford Statement on the attacks on Jews during Hanukah Celebration and on Christians in Texas during worship:

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford strongly condemns the vicious attacks on Jews in NYC during Hanukkah celebration and on the Christian worshipers at the West Freeway Church of Christ in Texas. We stand in support of our Jewish and Christian brothers and sisters against hate and bigotry.

Our hearts and prayers go to the families and friends of the victims of these senseless attacks.

We must stand together to oppose violence, hate and the targeting of places of worship. People of any faith tradition must feel safe and free to worship in their places of worship without fear or intimidation.

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford remains committed to confront anti- Semitism, Islamophobia and all forms of hatred.

IAGH Statement on Jersey City Kosher Supermarket Attack

The Islamic Association of Greater Hartford condemns in the strongest possible terms the horrific deadly attack at the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket in New Jersey. We stand with all Americans in support of our Jewish brothers and sisters and against Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and any form of hatred against any group of people. We at the Islamic Association of Greater Hartford offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families of the victims.  Such targeted hateful acts are contradictory to our American values and we must stand together in solidarity with the Jewish community. As a nation, we are stronger united, not divided.
