Who do we vote for? Conference on political education at Berlin masjid – Friday 9/9/16

Assalaamu-alaikum,
The Muslim Leadership Association of Connecticut is hosting a conference on – ‘Deciding Our Political Fate’
When: Friday 9th September
Where: Islamic Association of Greater Hartford – 1781 Berlin Turnpike
Time: 5pm to 7:10pm (Iftar courtesy of the masjid)
Educate, Organize and be a catalyst for Change.
Speakers include Mongi Dhaouadi – (keynote), Imam Refai Arefin, Alicia Strong and Gulafshan Khalil Alavi.
The speakers will speak about what Islam allows in terms of political involvement, the current political climate and grassroots involvement. It is vital we vote and learn about the process of making a difference.

Eid Day – Monday September 12th – Prayer and BBQ Picnic

Assalaamu-alaikum dear brothers and sisters,
Monday the 12th of September will be the day of Eid – Inshah Allah. Here are the arrangements for that day:
First prayer will be at Berlin masjid at 7am (Takbeer will be at 6:30am)
Second prayer will be at the XL Center at 10am (Takbeer will be at 9:30am) – United Eid Salat
Please come early as parking will be a challenge and bring your prayer rugs with you. Eid Mubarak to you all.
BBQ and picnic – 2pm to Maghrib on Eid day – chicken, hot dogs and burgers provided by the masjid. The picnic will be at Churchill Park, 1991 Main Street, Newington. Please sign up to bring a dish to share:

Last Nights of Ramadan and Eid Information

Dear brothers and sisters,

Alhamdulilah – we have been blessed with another amazing month. I hope and pray that you were able to benefit from this month. Thank you for donating generously to our annual Ramadan fundraiser. We have raised about $115,000 in the last week. If you wish to donate please bring your donations to the masjid or click the button.

The neighboring owner has expressed that he will be moving and we are in the process of assessing this property for our needs. We will keep you informed of our plans as we finalize them.

In these last nights of Ramadan and the approach of Eid, I do want to make you aware of the following:

Today – Saturday July 2nd – Youth program from 6pm to 7:30pm with Imam Refai

– Tonight 28th night of Ramadan – Community iftar and dinner.

– After 4 rakah of Tharaveeh – recognition of graduating students from IAGH Sunday School.

– After 8 rakah of Tharaveeh – Children’s (babysitting) activities program award ceremony.

Tomorrow – Sunday night (29th night of Ramadan) – Khatam Al Qur’an and distribution of sweets to take out.

We will collect money for the Imam’s on these last few nights of Ramadan. Sheikh Faragali brought a wonderful sense of tranquility with his demeanor and beautiful recitation of the Qur’an. Imam Refai and Sheikh Sami Shamma and Mohammad Ghonaim added to the spirituality with their beautiful lectures. Please donate generously.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO GIVE YOUR ZAKAT-UL-FITR – $10 PER PERSON PER IN EACH HOUSEHOLD. WE WILL GIVE IT TO THE INDIGENT AND REFUGEES IN GREATER HARTFORD

Eid according to the the Majlis-us-Shura of North America and ISNA will be on Wednesday July 6th.

– First prayer at the masjid at 7am

– Second prayer at XL center – 1 Civic Center Plaza, Hartford at 10am – there is an admission cost to rent the place – $10 per person and $25 per family. Please come 15 minutes early so that you can park. You can park in the Church Street (250 Church Street) or Morgan Street (155 Morgan Street) garages.

Please bring your prayer mats with you as the floor maybe hard and cold.

IAGH Statement Regarding the Tragic Mass Shooting in Orlando, Florida

IAGH Statement of Condolence:
 
“We are deeply saddened by the Tragic loss of life in this horrific mass shooting act of terror by a deeply troubled individual. We mourn the loss of innocent life and our prayers are for the victims and their families and friends. We stand in solidarity with all Americans in mourning this horrific tragedy. Islam does not condone or permit the killing of innocents.”

Spiritual Preparation for Ramadan – Potluck Event Saturday 5/28 with Imam Amr Abu-Alrub

This Saturday Imam Amr Abu-Alrub will be giving a lecture on the “Spiritual Preparation for Ramadan”
